6:00 PM - 8:30 PMA Film of Repentance and Renewal: “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood”
Nominated for an Academy Award and a Critics Choice Award, “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” (2019) is a film about acceptance, love, and renewal. It follows Lloyd Vogel (Matthew Rhys), a reporter assigned to profile children’s television sensation Fred Rogers (Tom Hanks). Vogel--based on the journalist Tom Junod--discovers in Mr. Rogers the power to forgive. We will watch this movie live on Zoom and then discuss. Participants may wish to read Junod’s 1998 profile before viewing the film as we emerge from the mourning of Tisha B’Av and begin the journey of repentance leading to the High Holy Days.
