Suburban Thursday Afternoon Retirees, better known as STAR, meets every Thursday from 1-3 pm, except on Jewish and national holidays. This vibrant group includes attendees from West Suburban Temple and Oak Park Temple, as well as the broader community. We are planning for June and July meetings to be available both in person at West Suburban Temple Har Zion and via zoom. Please join us in person if you can!
STAR, a joint endeavor of both Temples, offers a place for candid discussions on a variety of topics as well as an opportunity to socialize and to support each other. Recent presenters have included Cecily Mango on her experiences as a foreign service officer with the US Agency for International Development, STAR members DeeDee and Maury Mufson on their life in southern West Virginia, and Har Zion member Michael Zmora on the history leading to the purchase of land and construction of Temple Har Zion and Oak Park Temple.
STAR has longterm partnerships with Rush Oak Park Hospital, Dominican and Concordia Universities, Brookdale, Oak Park and River Forest Townships, Arbor West Neighbors, Jewish Child and Family Services and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
In July, STAR will meet on the following Thursdays, and we will have a chance to schmooze and perhaps a special guest or movie:
Thursday, July 3th - A chance to schmooze
Thursday, July 10th - A chance to schmooze
Thursday, July 17th - Oak Park Temple member Susan Cicelsky will present on "ISRAEL from 8 -86"
Thursday, July 24th - A chance to schmooze
Thursday, July 31st - Oak Park Temple and STAR member Peri Arnold will present on "Bonding Chicago's Jews to the Democratic Machine: Jacob Harvey's Leadership of the 24th Ward"
Watch your temple's weekly bulletins for updates on STAR programming.
If you'd like more information about STAR, contact your Temple office. We at STAR feel like a small community learning and growing together. Please join us!
