Michael Curtiz: The Best Director Whose Name You Don't Know

We begin a new series--likely continued in the fall--featuring the films of Michael Curtiz, Hungarian-Jewish-American filmmaker.

The film for April 28 is Joan Crawford's academy-award -winning performance in "Mildred Pierce" (1945). This is a great movie!

Unlike Billy Wilder, the subject of our previous series, Curtiz's work doesn't seem to (even subtly) reflect his Jewish background.

A very prolific studio director whose work for Warner Brothers will be familiar to you ("Casblanca" and "White Christmas," for instance), his membership in the Tribe, however, might have fostered his directing a celebrated short film in 1939 called ""Sons of Liberty," about noted Jewish supporter of the American revolution, Haym Solomon.

Join us on Sunday, April 28, at 1pm at Oak Park Temple, for a great movie, "Mildred Pierce," and fun conversation!
