STAR, a joint endeavor of both Temples, offers a place for candid discussions on a variety of topics as well as an opportunity to socialize and to support each other. Recent presenters have included STAR and Oak Park Temple member Peri Arnold on a history of Jews and the Democratic machine in the 24th ward under the leadership of Jacob Arvey; STAR member Mark Friedberger discussing his paper on "Academicians in Chicago: the Golden Age and After, 1965-2019;" Jordana Hoffman, the new Director of Programming and Member Engagement at Oak Park Temple, discussing her work and how we can participate, and Har Zion member Barb Yong on "The Wage Gap and What We Can Do About It."
STAR has longterm partnerships with Rush Oak Park Hospital, Dominican and Concordia Universities, Brookdale, Oak Park and River Forest Townships, Arbor West Neighbors, Jewish Child and Family Services and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
In October, STAR is currently scheduled to meet as follows:
October 2nd - Yom Kippur, STAR DOES NOT MEET
October 9th - Ally Cassity from Age Options will speak on Frauds and Scams
October 16th - A chance to schmooze and perhaps a movie or special guest
October 23rd - Community members Ruth and Karl Reko will discuss their missionary work
October 30th - A chance to schmooze and perhaps a movie or special guest
