In this presentation, author Annette Gendler will share how she transformed family stories, her grandfather’s written memories and letters, as well as historical and onsite research into her memoir Jumping Over Shadows, the story of a German-Jewish love that overcame the legacy of the Holocaust. Annette Gendler is also the author of the guide How to Write Compelling Stories from Family History, and has taught memoir writing at StoryStudio Chicago for many years. In 2014-15, she was writer-in-residence at the Hemingway Birthplace Home in Oak Park. Her essays have appeared in the Wall Street Journal, Tablet Magazine, Kveller, Family Tree Magazine, Bella Grace Magazine, among others. She lives in Chicago and Northwest Indiana with her family.
