Suburban Thursday Afternoon Retirees, better known as STAR, meets every Thursday from 1-3 pm, except on Jewish and national holidays.  This vibrant group includes attendees from West Suburban Temple and Oak Park Temple, as well as the broader community. We are planning for April meetings to be available both in person at West Suburban Temple Har Zion and via zoom, except where noted. Please join us in person if you can!

STAR, a joint endeavor of both Temples, offers a place for candid discussions on a variety of topics as well as an opportunity to socialize and to support each other.  Recent presenters have included Cantor Agnes Valdman of Oak Park Temple, the Illinois Holocaust Museum on the history of the Jewish deli, and Superintendent Dr. Ushma Shah of Oak Park School District 97.  STAR has longterm partnerships with Rush Oak Park Hospital, Dominican and Concordia Universities, Brookdale, Oak Park and River Forest Townships, Arbor West Neighbors, Jewish Child and Family Services and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. 

In April, STAR will meet on the 4th, 11th, 18th, and 25th:

April 4th - Dr. Evan McKenzie, J.D., Ph.D., a Professor of Political Science at the University of Illinois at Chicago, will present on condominium and homeowners’ associations

April 11th - a chance to schmooze and perhaps a special guest or a movie

April 18th - a chance to schmooze and perhaps a special guest or a movie

April 25th - UIC Art History Professor Emeritus and STAR member Bob Munman will speak on:
"Let's Reproduce...this Image: The Variety and Beauty of Prints"

At each STAR meeting, there is an opportunity for schmoozing and sharing.
