STAR
Suburban Thursday Afternoon Retirees, better known as STAR, meets every Thursday from 1-3 pm, except on Jewish and national holidays. This vibrant group includes attendees from West Suburban Temple and Oak Park Temple, as well as the broader community. We are planning for our December meetings to be available both in person at West Suburban Temple Har Zion and via zoom, except where noted. Please join us in person if you can!
STAR, a joint endeavor of both Temples, offers a place for candid discussions on a variety of topics as well as an opportunity to socialize and to support each other. Recent guests have included Abby Schmelling presenting on Waldheim Cemetery, Cantor Agnes Valdman of Oak Park Temple, Professor Peggy Ann Spitzer on "Female Empowerment and Climate Action," and a presentation by TV, film and advertising executive Sheila R. Brown. STAR has longterm partnerships with Rush Oak Park Hospital, Dominican and Concordia Universities, Brookdale, Oak Park and River Forest Townships, Arbor West Neighbors, Jewish Child and Family Services and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
In December, STAR will meet on the 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th:
December 7th - A chance to schmooze and perhaps a movie or a special guest
December 14th - Jane Llewellyn, PhD, RN, will talk about mortality: "Life is short, take the trip, buy the shoes."
December 21st - A chance to schmooze and perhaps a movie or a special guest
December 28th - A chance to schmooze and perhaps a movie or a special guest
Watch your temple's weekly bulletins for updates on STAR programming.
