STAR
Suburban Thursday Afternoon Retirees, better known as STAR, meets every Thursday from 1-3 pm, except on Jewish and national holidays. This vibrant group includes attendees from West Suburban Temple and Oak Park Temple, as well as the broader community. We are planning for our September meetings to be available both in person at West Suburban Temple Har Zion and via zoom. Please join us in person if you can!
STAR, a joint endeavor of both Temples, offers a place for candid discussions on a variety of topics as well as an opportunity to socialize and to support each other. Recent presentations have included an Illinois Holocaust Museum docent-led talk on Nazi Propaganda: Fueling Hate and Genocide, a presentation on birdwatching by Oak Park Temple member Chuck Berman, and a talk by Caroline Heskett from the Office of Community Health Equity & Engagement at Rush Oak Park Hospital. STAR has longterm partnerships with Rush Oak Park Hospital, Dominican and Concordia Universities, Brookdale, Oak Park and River Forest Townships, Arbor West Neighbors, Jewish Child and Family Services and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
In September, STAR will meet on the 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th:
September 7th - Dr. Greg Johnson, Superintendent of Oak Park and River Forest High School and members of his team will join us. Topics of interest include plans for a new pool, other building projects, educational initiatives, and taxes.
September 14th - A chance to schmooze and perhaps a special guest
September 21st - A chance to schmooze and perhaps a special guest
September 28th - Our regular meeting is cancelled and instead we will meet in person ONLY at NOON at Fritzi's Deli, 113 North Oak Park Avenue, Oak Park. Please email Sandra Sokol at sandrasokol@sbcglobal.net if you plan to join us
If you'd like more information about STAR, contact your Temple office. We at STAR feel like a small community learning and growing together. Please join us!
