Friday Night Services with Coleen Dieker
Shabbat Shirah and Refugee Shabbat
February 3 @ 8:00 pm
There are so many reasons to join us for Shabbat services this week, and we wanted to extend a special invitation.
First, our artist-in-residence Coleen Dieker will be with us. Coleen's music has enriched our congregation all year long, and this is her next-to-last visit with us. You can hear a sample of her work here, and we know you'll want to sing along this Friday night.
Second, Coleen's visit coincides with Shabbat Shirah, which means "Shabbat of Song." In our cycle of Torah portions, this is the week the Hebrews escape from slavery and celebrate their freedom on the shores of the Sea of Reeds. Zimrei Haam, our volunteer choir, will be singing; and our music will be specially chosen to emphasize gratitude and joy on this special occasion.
And finally, this week is also National Refugee Shabbat. Sponsored by HIAS, the Jewish refugee resettlement agency, Refugee Shabbat is our annual opportunity to recommit to helping refugees in our own community and across the country. You can directly help refugees in Chicago by buying items on this wishlist, organized by our local HIAS affiliate.
We're looking forward to seeing you on Friday night. Don't miss it!
