7:00 PM - 8:00 PMJews on the Right: A (Surprising) History of Jews in Conservative Politics with Kevin Schultz
Saturday, April 20 @ 7-8 pm at OPT and on Zoom
American Jews have almost always disproportionately advocated a progressive politics. But there are significant and prominent (and often wealthy) outliers. And certain specific challenges to America's purported meritocracy have often spurred widespread Jewish resistance. This talk will explore the history of American Jewry’s involved in U.S. politics, focusing on demographics, the issues that have most often provoked dissent within the Jewish population, and what the future may hold for Jewish involvement in American politics. Kevin M. Schultz is a member of the Oak Park Temple community and is the chair of the Department of History at the University of Illinois-Chicago. He is the author of four books about American political and religious life, including the forthcoming Why Everyone Hates White Liberals (including White Liberals): A History.
