Freedom Rides 60th Anniversary: Discussion with Rabbi Allen Secher

Whitefish, Montana is notorious as the hometown of white supremacist Richard Spencer and the site of tremendous community solidarity opposing antisemitism. The town is also home to Rabbi Allen Secher, whose commitment to justice stretches all the way back to 1962. Nearly 60 years ago, Rabbi Secher answered Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s call to  protest in the South for equal rights. Now, on the 60th anniversary of the first Freedom Ride (May 4, 1961), Rabbi Secher joins us to tell us of his experiences and share his first person stories, especially of being jailed for his efforts in '62 in Albany, GA and in '64 in St. Augustine, FL. His story is inspirational and motivates social justice activism to this day.
