Wendy Pearlman is Associate Professor of Political Science at Northwestern University.  Her research focuses on the comparative politics of the Middle East, social movements, political violence, refugees and migration, emotions and mobilization, and the Arab-Israeli conflict.  She will discuss her recent book We Crossed a Bridge and It Trembled, which gives voice to the stories of average Syrians facing the brutalities of civil war and displacement.  The personal narratives in this volume form a testament not only to the power of storytelling but also to the resilience of those who face darkness with hope, courage, and moral conviction.
