Tisha B'Av
Saturday, August 6, 2022 • 9 Av 5782
8:00 PM - 9:00 PMTisha B'Av
Saturday, Aug. 6
8:00 pm at Oak Park Temple
Tisha B'Av is Judaism's national day of mourning. The holiday was first established to mourn the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem during a war that left as many as one million Jews dead. It has come to hold our collective grief over other tragedies in Jewish history, including the beginning of the Crusades, the expulsion of Jews from Spain, and the deportation of Jews from the Warsaw Ghetto to Treblinka.
Our commemoration of Tisha B'Av will include the reading of the book of Lamentations, contemplative study, and poetry.
