Israel- What should we know? What can we do?

On Oct 7th, the people of Israel were violently thrust into a new reality. We will never be the same. Having lived in Israel for more than 20 years, former Oak Park Temple member Erin Kopelow will share her perspective on what the outside world needs to understand about Israel's current mindset.

Following Erin's presentation we will learn from temple member Jonathan Franklin about his time on Kibbutz Kissufim and our partnership with Beth Emet and Temple Beth Israel to provide resources to the members of this devastated kibbutz.

Bio:

Erin is Co-Founder and CEO of the independent creative agency TEC (https://www.tec.studio), an organization that is particularly rooted in Israel's startup ecosystem. Prior to this, Erin was co-creator and Head of Marketing for Tel Aviv University's one year Sofaer International MBA, which hosted students from over 35 countries around the world. Before moving to Israel, Erin worked in television production in Canada and was a National Champion athlete at the University of Michigan, where she got a degree in Political Science. She holds a joint MBA from Tel Aviv University and the Kellogg School of Management. She currently lives in Zichron Yakov with her 3 children and seriel entrepreneurial husband Ariel Beery.

50 years ago, Jonathan worked at Kibbutz Kissufim. Situated a little over a mile from the Gaza Strip, Kissufim was attacked in the October 7 massacre.

Jonathan lived in Israel for seven years where he also served in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and later in the reserves.

As a recent art school graduate, Jonathan would sketch his fellow kibbutzniks and life in the army. He has now collected his artistic impressions in two books, “Kibbutz Drawings” and “Army Sketches.”

Jonathan and his wife, Linda, have been members of OPT for over thirty years.
