Foster Care and Mentoring with Hephzibah Children's Association

On any given day in Illinois, there are more than 16,000 children in foster care. With a chronic shortage of safe and loving foster homes available for abused and neglected children, there is a growing urgency to find additional adults willing to open their hearts and their homes to a child in need. We know that many caring adults who would make great foster parents never act on their desire to help a child through fostering. Hephzibah's dedicated foster parents are specially trained to provide the love, constancy and additional support needed to help a child learn to heal from trauma and begin to trust again. Please join Amanda Lid and Nancy Silver of Hephzibah Children's Association for a presentation on the demographics of the clients we serve, support services specific to Hephzibah, requirements to becoming a foster parent and the licensing process.

Not ready to foster but want to make a profound and lasting difference in the life of a traumatized child? Consider becoming a mentor! Our therapeutic mentoring program supports children and families in our foster program. Mentors work one-on-one with a child to share interests and skills, build long term relationships and be a positive support for a child. This presentation will also review why mentoring is so important for foster children and general program guidelines.

Participants with any level of interest in Hephzibah's fostering and mentoring programs are encouraged to join! This is a no pressure opportunity to learn more about each of these programs and to ask questions.

Amanda Lid is Foster Care Licensing Supervisor for Hephzibah Children's Association
Nancy Silver is an Oak Park Temple member and Foster Parent Recruitment and Support Specialist for Hephzibah Children's Association
