WoOPT Book Club
Join us on Monday, September 12th at 7:30pm as we discuss The Yiddish Policemen’s Union by Michael Chabon. This will be the first book for our 2022-2023 season. For 60 years Jewish refugees and their descendants have prospered in the federal district of Sitka, a temporary safe haven created in the wake of the Holocaust and the shocking 1948 collapse of the fledgling state of Israel. The Jews of the Sitka District have created their own little world in the Alaskan panhandle. Homicide detective Meyer Landsman has a wreck of a marriage a wreck, his career is a disaster, and someone has just committed a murder - right under his nose. He finds himself contending with all the powerful forces of faith, obsession, evil, and salvation that are his heritage. At once a gripping whodunit, a love story, and an exploration of the mysteries of exile and redemption.
Our plan is to meet in person at the temple, with a ZOOM option if necessary.
Copies will be available at the Oak Park Public Library, but please call in advance to make sure they are in.
ANYONE AND EVERYONE IS WELCOME… you don't have to be a woman, just need a desire to talk about great Jewish books! Join us and see what a fun group of people we are! For more information contact Sheila Pont at swpont@gmail.com
