2:00 PM - 3:00 PMAccompanying the Dead for Burial: Oak Park Temple's Chevra Kadisha
in the community Hall at OPT or on Zoom
Customs of mourning and burial are among the most ancient traditions still observed by Jews around the world. They include a beautiful and powerful ritual called tahara, which is the washing, purifying and dressing of the deceased for burial. This sacred practice honors the deceased and sanctifies the transition from life to death.
Tahara is the work of the Chevra Kadisha.
The West Suburban Chevra Kadisha (WSCK) is a joint project of Oak Park Temple and West Suburban Temple. This liberal chevra kadisha is the first of its kind in the western suburbs and makes tahara possible for our community.
Join Cantor Green for a class on the history and meaning of the Chevra Kadisha and its importance within the Oak Park Temple community.
Note that Cantor Green will be leading a separate tahara training for those who wish to participate and volunteer with the Chevra Kadisha. Tahara training date to be announced.
